The CMSE department is sponsoring a MSU-hosted two-day workshop on Quantum Computing Fundamentals using IBM's software framework, Qiskit (https://qiskit.org). Kayla Johnson is a graduate student studying human genetics at MSU. She works under Dr. Arjun Krishnan to find systems and patterns of genes that correlate to certain diseases and to understand how these are impacted by a patient’s age, sex, and the tissues specific to the problems exhibited by the patient.
Dr. Christopher Mancuso of the Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering has been awarded the Kirschstein-NRSA postdoctoral fellowship from the National Institute of
General Medical Sciences at the National Institutes of Health.
The Ingham Intermediate School District recently held MASCOT (Mathematics Augmentation Series: Cultivating Optimal Teaching) and visited the CMSE department where they gained experience with mathematics and computational science.
The Computational Mathematics, Science, and Engineering (CMSE) department recently hosted the CyberAmbassador fellows training.

The NSF and DoD-funded REU has officially begun as of last week as students from around the US arrived at Michigan State University.
Prof. Murillo will be speaking at an invitational-only workshop at the Centre Européen de Calcul Atomique et Moléculaire in Switzerland. Murillo's talk will address and propose a solution to the workshop topic - failures in Density Functional Theory.
