Ian's Headshot

Congratulations to Ian Freeman, a CMSE Ph.D. student who will be starting his third year this fall, on being awarded an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. Ian has enjoyed figuring out how the world works for as long as he can remember, which led him to study math and physics as an undergraduate. Studying computational plasma physics now feels like a natural next step for him, and he is incredibly grateful for this opportunity.  Ian first became interested in programming after taking an introductory course in high school. He started making little games in Python using what he could find online and learn from classmates. He still finds himself making those kinds of projects, but now they look more like research and science. He’s taken many small steps to get to this point and is thankful for all the help and support he has had along the way.
