Graduate Programs with CMSE
The Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering (CMSE) at Michigan State University comprehensively treats computation as a new discipline - the junction between algorithm development and analysis, high performance computing, and computational modeling and data science. This core foundation in advanced computing and mathematical algorithms is applied by CMSE faculty and students to research across many fields, from astrophysics to horticulture to medicine. Related to computation is the emerging field of data science, which brings together the core disciplines of computing, statistics, and information science to address questions across a broad range of topics not only in STEM, but also in fields such as the social sciences, humanities, public policy, education, and medicine.
In pursuit of this research, the Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering offers the following graduate programs:
1. A Master's of Science in Data Science (MSDS),
2. A Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering (CMSE),
3. Dual Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering
(CMSE),
4. A Graduate certificate in Computational Modeling,
5. A Graduate certificate in High-performance Computing.
