Undergraduate Program
The use of computational methods and tools to solve important problems is a fact of
life in the 21st century in the sciences, in engineering, and in many other fields.
Knowledge of how these methods work, and how to use them effectively, has become crucial
to the success of students entering these fields. Furthermore, close collaboration
between those who develop new algorithms and the scientists and engineers who apply
new methods to cutting-edge problems can foster innovation and greatly facilitate
discovery.
In pursuit of these goals, the Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering offers a set of undergraduate courses and curricula that aim to meet the needs of students at Michigan State University. These offerings include an undergraduate major in Data Science and an undergraduate minor in Data Science (jointly with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Department of Statistics and Probability), as well as an undergraduate minor in Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering. Together, these programs provide a comprehensive suite of coursework that can prepare students across a wide range of disciplines to integrate computation into their future careers.
