Statistical signal processing plays a crucial role in numerous fields of modern technology and science. Some of the important applications include extracting signals from noisy data, processing images and videos for tasks like compression and enhancement, and analyzing time-varying data, such as climate data and asset prices. In this dissertation, we address two problems related to statistical signal/image processing.

Sarah McGuire has won the CMSE Outstanding PhD Award. Sarah and awardees from each Engineering Department will receive a $1,000 award stipend, a framed certificate, and a medal to be presented at graduation. Their accomplishments will be recognized at an awards ceremony in May.

Michigan State University has announced that Professor Katy Luchini Colbry, a faculty member in the College of Engineering, has been awarded the Distinguished Academic Staff Award. These awards are given to academic specialists and MSU Extension academic staff for extraordinary achievements, excellence, and exceptional contributions in advising, curriculum development, outreach, extension, research, and/or teaching.
