Michigan State University has announced that Professor Katy Luchini Colbry, a faculty member in the College of Engineering, has been awarded the Distinguished Academic Staff Award. These awards are given to academic specialists and MSU Extension academic staff for extraordinary achievements, excellence, and exceptional contributions in advising, curriculum development, outreach, extension, research, and/or teaching. Professor Daniel Appelö, with other CMSE faculty, were interviewed by MSUToday for their NSF Research Traineeship program award for $3 million; this award focuses on artificial intelligence and its use in STEM research of graduate students. Read more about their work in this article.

For the second year in a row MSU participated in a nationwide Datathon4Justice Event. The CMSE led team worked all weekend to come together and examine datasets related to social justice.

An ICER Research Highlight documentary short has won the w3 Award for Best in Show - Science and Technology Video. “The Puzzle of Topological Data Analysis,” created by ICER Communications Manager Michelle David featuring Dr. Liz Munch. The w3 Awards honor creative excellence on the web and recognize the people behind award-winning sites, marketing programs, social content, mobile site and apps, and online video. The ICER Research Highlight documentary shorts(link is external) feature the advanced innovation and research possible through the High-Performance Computing Center (HPCC) at Michigan State University.
